A Boatshed Aesthetic

Just thought I'd share these images which, to me, capture the essence of a relaxed, seaside atmosphere without compromising on style. There are so many aspects which I love, I don't know where to start. In the images of the first house, on Water Island, east of New York City, I love the mosquito net, white cane furniture, flowers, shells, cushions, interior lining boards, exposed beams, wall-mounted china and mattress ticking cushions:

More of the same in this one on Sag Harbour, Long Island:

Then, the stressed walls, iron furniture and Louis-style chair in this gorgeous house in Cadaques, Costa Brava, Spain:

I think the common elements are the use of natural materials, the restraint in the use of 'seaside' elements, and the faded, slightly shabby patina of all three residences. All images courtesy of Seaside Interiors by Taschen.

Our neighborhood surrounds a town called Seaside in Florida. It's lovely and reminds me of the images you shared tonight.

What is your favorite feature of your lovely boatshed? Personally, I like the reupholstered chairs.

Beth, I own this wonderful book. Well share it with my mother actually. One week it's at her place and the next at mine lol. The last three images are my favourite! I adore the iron furniture and the rustic walls.

Looking again, the first image looks as though it was styled by Anna Spiro of Absolutely Beautiful Things.

Hi Seleta,
I think I would have to agree with you - they're my favourite too :)

Hi Anna,
There's something about that house isn't there? I'm not as keen on the kitchen, but I particularly love the Louis chair in the last photo and the peeling walls. It looks shabby and sophisticated at the same time. I agree with you about the top photo too - the tablescape and Ralph Lauren fabric are very Anna Spiro:)
