On our way to Mission Beach we stopped at a beautiful swimming hole called 5-Mile Creek recommended by our friends Lara and Geoff (thanks, guys!). While the water looked very inviting, we didn't venture in, just made a cup of tea:
At Mission Beach we stayed at Castaways, where the rooms were quite OK:
However, for $119 a night, we would have liked a better view. We seemed to have one of only a handful of rooms that didn't overlook the water:

The town itself has a 'hippie' feel with a few cafes, a pub and some shops:
